4 Methods that Keep You Accountable During Your Fitness Journey

Most gyms in the Gold Coast charge an average of AU$70 per month. And yet many people will waste that money when they stop going to the gym after a few weeks. That’s why it’s surprising that more people don’t have accountability partners to help them achieve their fitness goals.

The key is to find the right kind of accountability partner to help you keep your eyes on your fitness goals. Who that person is, or whom that group of people is made up of, will depend entirely on your own needs.

Here are a few suggestions for accountability partners you should consider.

   1. Talk to Your Life Partner/Spouse

If you are in a healthy relationship, where there is mutual love, consideration, and respect, then it would be a good idea to consider your partner as an accountability partner.

Remember, a person who knows you inside out is in a great position to hold you accountable, keep your eyes on your fitness goals, provide encouragement, and even monitor your diet. Do not underestimate the positive influence such a person can have on your ability to achieve your fitness goals. Better yet, both of you can become healthier as a couple together as you bond over your common fitness challenges.

   2. Get a Training Partner/Partners

Have you taken a look at the training methods that elite athletes use? They often train in packs. This is because working out with others makes the fitness journey less stressful.

Training with at least one other person makes you accountable to that person in addition to yourself. You will be obligated to work out even when you don’t want to, in order to avoid being a disappointment to your training partner.

Training partners will also provide you with the encouragement you need whenever you come across obstacles. And this will keep you going even when you don’t feel like doing so.

It’s worth noting that training partners provide a healthy rivalry that will get your juices flowing. When your partner bench presses 200 lbs., you would be inspired to do one better and maybe push 225 lbs. This kind of healthy competition would ensure that both of you improve your fitness and strength. That way both of you end up winning.

  3. Get a Personal Trainer/Coach

Gyms usually offer these, right from the start. When you have someone who has authority over you, you are more likely to listen to that person and act according to the instructions you are given.

A personal trainer is someone who will keep you on your toes. If they come from a reputable gym, they’ll know exactly what you need to keep you fit. Having someone closely supervise what you are doing and motivate you when you are being lazy or careless, is certainly a good way to keep your eyes on the ultimate fitness goal.

   4. Blog Your Fitness Journey

There are plenty of blogging platforms like WordPress and Blogger that will allow you to write about your attempts to stay fit. People just love personal stories – especially those that entail victories over issues like weight and poor health. It is human nature to cheer for those who struggle to overcome challenges.

As you pour your heart out online, you will discover thousands, if not millions of people out there, who consider you a source of inspiration. These people will become your biggest cheerleaders and act as your accountability partners.

Fitness is a slippery slope. If you miss a step or two, you may end up relapsing back into a sedentary lifestyle. Combine some or all of these strategies to keep yourself fit. Most gyms in the Gold Coast will offer expert help, and you can attend with a training partner, a spouse, or a life coach. Like any other victory, fitness is best enjoyed with others.
