Tips On Keeping Your Skin Healthy After Your Trip To The Beach

Most people love to spend time on the beach during summer. It’s one of the most refreshing ways to beat the heat. You can relax under the sun, take a swim, or enjoy the view.

A survey even cited that most people’s dream vacation involves this popular destination. Unfortunately, too much exposure to some elements at the beach can take a toll on your skin. Beach time can damage your skin if you don’t take the necessary precautions. The sun’s rays are stronger near water, and sand reflects them so that you can get burned even on cloudy days.

If you’ve just come back from the beach and your skin is feeling dry, itchy, and irritated, don’t despair. With some essential skincare tips, you can quickly get your skin back to its healthy state.

1. Rinse off with fresh water as soon as possible

One of the most important things you can do after spending time at the beach is rinsing off with fresh water. This will help remove any salt, sand, or chlorine stuck on your skin. Be sure to use lukewarm water rather than hot water, as this can further dry out your skin.

2. Apply a moisturizer or aloe vera gel to your skin.

A trip to the beach may expose your skin to more sun than it’s used to, so it’s essential to moisturize your skin afterward. Lotions and aloe vera gel can help soothe skin. Apply these products generously to your skin, particularly if you have any peeling areas. This will help replenish any moisture that your skin may have lost during your time in the sun. You can use a store-bought moisturizer or make your own by mixing aloe vera gel with water. This will help soothe any irritation caused by the sun or saltwater.

3. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to stay hydrated.

Dehydration can cause your skin to become dry and cracked, so it’s essential to replenish your fluids after a day in the sun. Drinking plenty of fluids can help your skin moisturize from the inside out. Water is always the best choice, but you can also drink fruit juices and herbal teas to help hydrate your skin.

4. Avoid scrubbing your skin too harshly.

People tend to scrub their skin intensely when cleaning off, especially when there’s sand. However, this can damage your skin and make the irritation worse. Gently pat your skin dry instead of rubbing it vigorously.

While you’re at it, you should be careful in choosing soaps and body wash that you need to use. Cleansers that are too harsh can strip away the natural oils from your skin, leaving it dry and irritated. Choose a gentle cleanser or soap instead.

5. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Tight clothing can rub against your skin and make irritation worse. It can irritate sunburned skin. Opt for loose cotton clothes that will allow your skin to breathe. If you have to wear synthetics, make sure they’re loose-fitting.

It’s important to let your skin heal properly, and clothing can either help or hinder that process.

6. Apply a cool compress to soothe sunburned skin.

If you’ve spent too much time in the sun and have developed a sunburn, you can do a few things to ease the discomfort. Sunburn symptoms are easy to spot: your skin will be red, sore, and might even peel in extreme cases. To help relieve the pain, apply a cool compress to the affected area. This can be a clean cloth soaked in cold water, or you can use a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel.

Applying a cool compress to the affected area can help reduce swelling and pain. You can also take a cool shower or bath to help relieve the irritation. Be sure to avoid using hot water, further damaging your skin. But sometimes, sunburn can be too much for home remedies. If your sunburn is severe, blisters form, or you have a fever, seek medical attention immediately.

7. Protect your skin from the sun in the future.

After your skin has healed from its beach trip, be sure to take steps to protect it in the future. This can further irritate already sensitive skin. One of the best ways to prevent damage to your skin is to use sunscreen every time you go outside. The sun’s rays can penetrate the clouds and damage your skin even on cloudy days.

Be sure to choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and apply it liberally to all exposed areas of the skin. Reapply it every two hours, or more often if you’re swimming or sweating.

You can maintain your skin’s health even after your trip to the beach by following these tips. This can also serve as a preventive measure for any skin damage.
